Devlog 001: Are We Dead?

The Harsh Truth of Indie Development

If you’ve been around Steam long enough, you’ve seen it: A promising indie game appears a striking trailer, a cool-looking demo. You wishlist it, maybe even follow the Devs, hoping this is one of those rare gems that makes it.

And then… silence.

No updates. No Devlogs. No social posts. It starts to feel familiar. Another project, another good idea, gone. Swallowed by the same uncertainties that haunt indie games everywhere.

As gamers ourselves, we know that feeling all too well. We’ve clicked Wishlist on those same projects, wondered what if. Even when the demo is rough, unfinished, or broken, you still imagine the potential. The version that could’ve been, the game that never made it.

It’s easy to assume the worst. “They must have quit.” “Maybe the hype wasn’t enough.” “It probably got abandoned.”

We’ve been there. We’ve thought the same things. That’s why this post matters.

So… Are We Dead?

No. We’re not dead. But after 15 months of near silence, we owe you an explanation.

Firva is not abandoned. After all it was our beloved creation.

It has changed maybe a lot that what you expect even more than what we could have hoped

When we started building Firva a cinematic, story-driven fantasy game about intertwined destinies we had no idea where the journey would lead. Like countless teams before us, we dove in with nothing but passion, a dream, and that foolish indie optimism.

But dreams collide with reality. Resources run thin. Life gets messy. And in our case, life got really messy.

Team changes. Endless obstacles.

And yet… we’re still here.

Today marks the start of our weekly Devlog series an honest, behind-the-scenes look at how we’ve fought to keep Firva alive, and how it’s evolved for better or worse.

We’ll talk about:

  • How this all began: The vision, the first prototypes, and all the versions you never saw.
  • Why this game matters to us. The gaps we saw in the genre. The unique story we felt had to be told.
  • Our core pillars: Cinematic storytelling. Tight, impactful combat. Deep world-building.
  • How the team has grown and sometimes shrunk. The hard lessons learned along the way.

This is our story a story built between setbacks, through uncertainty, written in the margins of chaos.

We’re not dead. We’ve been quietly rebuilding. And now, we’re ready to show you where Firva stands.

Thank you for sticking with us. Let’s begin again. This time together
